In the 90´the Sliač airport together with other public Slovak separated from Československé aerolínie (Czech and Slovak airlines) which meant that on 1. 1. 1991 it became a part of newly formed contributory organization called Slovenská správa letísk (Slovak administration of airports). At the same year it was also given the statute of a public international airport. The situation remained unchanged until 2004. Pursuant to the Act no. 136/2004 the Sliač airport was transformed on 1.1.2005 to a joint-stock company which 100% owner is represented by the Slovak Republic.

Actually the airport operates under Letisko Sliač, a.s. and represents an operator of civil international airport. From May 2009 the airport was closed as under the auspices of NATO reconstruction of runway and landing runway was made which took already 2 years. Nowadays we can inform the wide public that the Sliač airport has been open for the civil air operation since 16. June 2011.
